About Us
Our Story & Mission
It all started with a simple observation in our own family. Every evening, Grandpa would settle into his armchair with a Sudoku puzzle, eager to keep his mind sharp. But as his eyesight worsened, the tiny numbers in puzzle books and on existing apps became a source of frustration instead of fun. We saw him squint and struggle, and we knew there had to be a better way. Sudokus.io was born out of love and concern – a mission to create a more comfortable, enjoyable Sudoku experience for him and for everyone. What began as a passion project to help one beloved senior enjoy his favorite brain game has blossomed into Sudokus.io, a platform dedicated to bringing the joy of Sudoku to players of all ages (especially seniors) around the world. We know firsthand how puzzles like Sudoku can provide gentle mental exercise – studies have shown that older adults who regularly engage in number puzzles like Sudoku perform better on tests of memory, attention, and reasoning. Sudoku isn’t just a game; it’s a way to keep the mind sharp and have fun at the same time. We’ve also learned that focusing on a Sudoku can be wonderfully calming – it’s a chance to tune out daily stress and relax through logic.
Our mission is simple: make Sudoku welcoming, accessible, and fun for everyone. Whether you’re a lifelong puzzle enthusiast or just discovering Sudoku for the first time, we believe in crafting an experience that feels intuitive, soothing, and rewarding. From the heartfelt inspiration of Grandpa’s nightly puzzles to the growing community of players who join us each day, Sudokus.io remains guided by a core philosophy: put the player first. We listen to our community, continually refine the games, and always remember why we started – to see eyes light up (without any straining or squinting!) and to hear players say “This is how Sudoku should feel.” Every feature and design choice on Sudokus.io reflects our story and our commitment to bring both cognitive health benefits and simple joy through the classic game of Sudoku.
What We Build
Sudokus.io isn’t just one puzzle – it’s a whole collection of Sudoku experiences designed to delight and challenge you. We’ve built a platform featuring multiple Sudoku variants and modern features, all under one roof, to keep the game fresh while honoring its classic roots. Here’s what we offer to our players:
- Big, Easy-to-Read Puzzles: We use large, clear numbers and high-contrast colors so you never have to strain your eyes while playing. Our clean, uncluttered layout is especially designed with senior players in mind, but appreciated by anyone who loves readable, senior-friendly visuals.
- Classic & Variant Sudokus: Enjoy the timeless 9x9 Classic Sudoku, plus fun twists like Killer Sudoku (for an extra layer of challenge with cages and sums) and Mini 6x6 Sudoku (a smaller grid perfect for quick games or beginners). Each puzzle is carefully generated to have a unique solution and to be solvable with logic – no guessing needed! This variety means there’s always a new puzzle type to try when you’re in the mood for something different.
- Multiple Difficulty Levels: Choose from Easy, Medium, Hard, or Expert puzzles to match your skill level. Whether you’re a newcomer who just wants a relaxing game or a seasoned Sudoku master seeking a serious challenge, we have puzzles that cater to you. Our game designers ensure that “Easy” truly feels easy and welcoming, while “Expert” will test even the best solvers.
- Helpful Solving Tools: To enhance your Sudoku-solving experience, we provide handy tools and features inspired by how people solve puzzles on paper. You can undo mistakes with a single tap, use a hint when you’re stuck (it’ll give you a nudge in the right direction without spoiling the whole puzzle), and erase any entry easily. We also offer a pencil mode (Notes) – you can jot down possible numbers in a cell, just like penciling in tiny notes in the margins of a newspaper puzzle. These features make solving on Sudokus.io convenient and enjoyable, whether you like to solve methodically or experiment as you go.
- Progress Tracking & Challenges: If you’re the competitive or analytical type, we’ve got you covered. Sudokus.io includes optional timers and statistics – track how quickly you solve each puzzle and watch your skills improve over time. You can even see your personal bests and average solve times. For those who love a friendly competition, our leaderboards let you compare your performance with other Sudoku fans around the world. Climb the ranks and celebrate your progress, or just challenge yourself to beat your own records. The important thing is, you’re in control – you can ignore the timer and leaderboards if you prefer a casual, untimed puzzle session.
- Play Anywhere, Anytime: Our platform is built with a responsive design that adapts seamlessly to any device. Whether you’re playing on a desktop computer, a tablet, or a smartphone, Sudokus.io feels right at home. The interface remains intuitive with either mouse or touch controls, and you can even play on the go without losing any of the experience. No apps or plugins are required – just open your browser and play instantly. Your puzzles will always fit nicely on your screen, and inputs are easy whether you tap numbers or type them.
- Free and User-Friendly: We believe Sudoku should be enjoyable and accessible for everyone, so Sudokus.io is free to use – no subscriptions, paywalls, or downloads needed. Just visit our site, pick a puzzle, and start solving right away. While we do display the occasional ad to support the site, we promise to keep the experience clean and distraction-free (no obnoxious pop-ups or interruptions in the middle of your game). Our focus is on you and the puzzle – all features are available without paying a cent, and any future premium options will never compromise the basic free experience. We want Sudokus.io to feel like your friendly online puzzle book that’s always open and ready.
Accessibility
Games should be welcoming for every player, and we built Sudokus.io with accessibility in mind from day one. This starts with our commitment to senior-friendly design: large text, high-contrast colors, and simple controls. In fact, our use of big fonts and clear interfaces isn’t just aesthetic – it’s proven to aid visibility and reduce eye strain for older adults during extended game sessions. We’ve tested our color schemes to ensure that the grid and numbers remain distinguishable for players with common visual impairments. For example, you can toggle settings like highlighting completed numbers or using color hints to make scanning the puzzle easier on the eyes.
We also make sure Sudokus.io works well with different input methods and devices. You can play by tapping the on-screen number pad, clicking with a mouse, or typing numbers on your keyboard – whichever is most comfortable for you. Our interface is designed to be intuitive for first-time users, with clear icons and prompts (no tiny buttons or confusing menus). We’ve translated the site into multiple languages (English, German, Japanese, Arabic, Spanish, French, Russian and more) so that players around the world can navigate the game in their native language. And we’re continuously improving: if you rely on assistive technology or have a suggestion to make Sudokus.io easier to use, please let us know. Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, and we are eager to learn from our community. Our goal is that anyone, regardless of age or ability, can comfortably enjoy a puzzle on Sudokus.io.
